The paulownia tree (also bluebell tree) originally comes from Asia and was first brought to Europe by the Würzburg naturalist Philipp Franz von Siebold in the mid-19th century. He named the tree after his Dutch client and Queen Anna Pavlovna, a daughter of the tsar. The plant quickly became a popular ornamental tree in imperial gardens and parks throughout Europe.
The enormous CO2 storage capacity is particularly interesting. Due to its very rapid growth, Paulownia can store many times more CO2 than conventionally used forest stands.
The heart-shaped leaves reach a diameter of up to one meter in the first few years and later become smaller again.
The blue-violet bell-shaped flowers bloom for the first time in their third year and are particularly impressive thanks to their large panicles.
